Bullock plays a tyrannical editor at a NYC publishing house where Reynolds is her assistant. About to be deported from the United States due to her visa having expired, the Canadian editor makes a one-sided decision to marry her American assistant in order to keep her job and stay in the country.

Unfortunately, having treated him as the underdog, he is not willing to do her the favor with no strings attached. He is an aspiring author, and after she has rejected the manuscript for his first book, Reynolds accepts the sham wedding in exchange for a promotion and a contract for his novel.

An immigration official is after Bullock’s case and in order to make sure they tie the knot in the name of love, he follows them to Alaska, where they are to break the news of their engagement to his family.

The situations that arise during the unlikely couple’s stay in Alaska seem to point them straight to disaster to the point that the wedding is called off. The ending is predictable, as in all romantic comedies, but the movie is entertaining. For women, just watching Bullock’s 4” stylish heels and designer clothes can be a lot of fun.
